Wairau River 2002 Richmond Ridge Malborough Sauvignon Blanc

This is the wine that we chose to go with our meal at Bymark. It's not the first time I've had the wine but it's the first time I've had it within the context of a very good meal. On the first tasting I was struck by a granny smith apple taste. The wine was sweet but was also very sharp and had a clean finish. The aftertaste was mildly fruity but did not have a long lasting impression.

The wine paired best with the foie gras I found. Although I am not a wine connoiseur I would be comfortable in recommending this wine with any meal that would require a fruity sauvignon blanc.
